(737) 200-7042An Austin Business Built on Numismatics
Austin Coin Buyers was founded by numismatists with a clear goal: build a local buying experience for Austin-area coin sellers that puts accuracy, transparency, and respect first. We work exclusively with sellers in the Austin metro because in-person transactions produce better outcomes for everyone involved.
Our approach combines working knowledge of precious metals markets with decades of numismatic experience across early American coinage, Morgan and Peace silver dollars, pre-1933 US gold, and modern bullion programs from the US Mint and world mints. We study Heritage Auctions and Stack’s Bowers results, reference the PCGS Price Guide and Grey Sheet, and track daily spot prices from the London Bullion Market Association.
The coin market rewards preparation. Sellers who understand what they have make better decisions, whether they sell to us or take offers elsewhere. Our appraisals are free, our offers are written and itemized, and you are never obligated to sell. We stand behind every number we put in front of you with full transparency into how we arrived at it.
Austin has a strong and growing coin collecting community. Central Texas is home to serious collectors, estate attorneys, financial advisors managing inherited assets, and families who discovered decades worth of coins after a relative passed. The University of Texas community, the tech sector’s wealth concentration along the 183 corridor, and the city’s expanding population have all contributed to a robust local market. We built our practice to serve that community with honesty.
We welcome sellers from every background: lifelong collectors transitioning out of the hobby, heirs who inherited coins they have never examined, and investors who purchased gold or silver bullion years ago and are ready to liquidate. Whatever brought you here, you will receive the same accurate, market-based appraisal.
How We Work Differently
Transparent Pricing
Every offer is built on today's metal spot prices for bullion and published numismatic guides for collector coins. We show you the math — what you have, what it contains, and what we pay for each category. Nothing is hidden.
By Appointment
All visits are by appointment. Call to schedule a dedicated session at a time that works for you. For large or fragile collections, we can arrange a home visit. Austin estate sellers with significant inherited holdings benefit most from this option.
Same-Day Cash or Wire
Accept an offer and walk out with cash up to our daily limit, or have funds wired to your bank account the same business day. No waiting, no checks, no back-and-forth.
Discreet Transactions
Selling coins is a personal matter. Every transaction is handled privately. No display cases, no crowded waiting area, no pressure tactics. Whether you have one gold coin or a complete estate, you receive the same professional experience.
How Selling Your Coins Works
Call to Schedule
Call (737) 200-7042 to book your appointment Monday through Saturday, 10am to 6pm.
We Appraise While You Wait
Our buyers examine each coin individually under proper lighting with loupes and reference tools. Large collections take 30 to 60 minutes. A handful of coins typically takes 10 minutes.
You Get a Written Offer
We provide an itemized written offer showing what we pay for each coin or group. You can accept, decline, or take the offer elsewhere to compare.
Cash or Wire Same Day
Accept the offer and receive cash on the spot or a same-day wire transfer to your bank. No delays, no checks, no holds.
The Difference Between Melt and Numismatic Value
Every coin has a metal content value: the raw worth of the gold or silver it contains at today’s spot price. Many coins also carry a separate layer of value that has nothing to do with metal: numismatic or collector value.
A 1925 Peace Dollar contains roughly 0.7734 troy ounces of 90% silver. At current silver spot prices, the melt value alone is significant. But a 1925 Peace Dollar in uncirculated condition commands $75 to $150 from serious collectors because of its condition rarity. That premium is driven entirely by grade, not by metal content.
Now consider the 1925-D Peace Dollar. Same silver content, same face value, same date, but minted in Denver in far lower quantities. In circulated condition, a 1925-D can bring $1,500 or more because of its relative scarcity. The collector demand for the D mintmark at this date creates the premium.
This is why appraisal matters before you sell. We examine every coin individually, reading the date, the mintmark, the grade, and the current market demand, to make sure you receive the full value of what you bring in.
Why This Matters When You Sell
We have seen Austin sellers bring in coins they expected to sell at melt that were worth five to fifty times that amount. We have also seen sellers convinced they had rare coins that turned out to be common dates. Our written, itemized offers explain each value driver so you understand what you are being paid and why, whether you sell to us or take the offer somewhere else.
